I started my day knowing that I needed to raise $5,000 by the end of the day, or I was simply out of business. I had no idea where it was going to come from, so I headed in to visit a new mentor who operated a local business incubator.
I came into his office and he was standing in his doorway. He was talking to his assistant and I told him off my predicament. I said I had to have $5,000 by the end of the day, or I was out of business.
He asked me what I was going to do, and I said “I guess I need to go raise capital!” to which he said, “Well go do it!”
It was around 8 in the morning and I walked out the door. After I had left, he had turned to his assistant and said, “Well, there goes another one down the drain!”
Around 1PM I walked into his office, he was standing in the same place and I had a grin on my face.
He said, “You got $5,000” to which I said, “nope” and he said, “How much did you get?” and I said “$10,000.”
He said, “Hot Dam, we have one we can work with, come on in!”
I wouldn’t have come up with that money, if I had not had a Definite Chief Aim.
I knew exactly what I needed to do, what the mark was and did it so well that I managed to get twice what I needed that day. There were no influences working against me and when the heat was on and it really counted, I came through because I was focused like a laser.
Everything you do needs to be approached with laser like focus and you’ll find success in the most difficult times.
