Every so often, I have these moments in time that can last from a few hours to several days. I see what others don't, intensely observing absolutely everything that's going on around me.
As I scan, I carefully start in one area as though I'm reading the paper starting in the upper left hand corner and moving from left to right, top to bottom, not forgetting to turn over and read the other side in the same way I read the front not forgetting to read any micro-print that might be on the edge of the paper.
After having captured every detail, I'm able to recall incredible facts and figure which sometimes will make it seem as though I have a photographic memory, but in reality, I just had intense interest and devoured all the information in an organized fashion.
I have spent considerable time trying to figure out what triggers this type of methodical learning so that I'm able to activate it at will, but haven't been able to quite put my finger on what makes me go into this phase.
This morning, however, I had a thought, after watching “The Social Network” I might have a connection to capturing the moment. Mark Zuckerberg always seems to be in that intense moment, as if he is always on the task with no dependencies. While everyone else around him jumps all over the map, he's completely focused on the next task without dependencies moving a quickly and methodically as he can.
It's that intensity that needs to be a part of my work, constantly focusing on the next task with no dependencies. Harnessing that energy day-in-and-day-out will quickly bring my next and best success story.
