Best-Laid Plans

Our best-laid plans don’t amount to much if they don’t truly fit the goal. That’s been the case in my life. I’ve been walking four-plus miles a day, 145 days straight, and hit a plateau in my weight loss.

Yes, I’m in better condition, but I’m not yet where I want to be. Losing twenty more pounds would make a real difference.

When My Plans Fall Short

Weight doesn’t come off in my fifties like it did in my twenties. It’s harder now, and it requires more than just walking. My friend Christine suggested I change things up—so I added hills and even some light jogging. I can feel the difference in my cardio.

Exercise matters. Food choices matter. But most importantly, my focus needs to remain on Christ. Because when my best-laid plans don’t work, His plan still does.

What Tomorrow Brings

We don’t know what tomorrow will hold, but we can choose to honor God today. And when our plans aren’t working, the best step forward is to pause, pray, and do the next right thing we know to do.

“Look here, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.’ How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?”
— James 4:13–14a

Our plans may shift, but God’s direction never fails.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, order my day, direct my steps, and shape my plans to align with Yours. When my strength and strategy fall short, remind me that Your way is always best. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
