Apple Watch Says I Am Overweight

Do you have an Apple Watch? If you do, you know that you can connect your watch to specific scales and track your weight along with several other health indicators. I bought the Apple watch in December 2021 only to have my watch tell me I am 30 pounds overweight after connecting it to a Withings Digital WiFi Scale.

My goal is to lose 30 pounds in 30 weeks, a pound a week, as a reasonable goal.

The Apple Watch gives you three circles to work on, including standing, burning calories, and exercising. All goals are relatively simple, including 570 calories a day, 12 hours of standing, and 30 minutes of exercise.

My diet consisted of eating out practically as I typically eat alone, but I decided to make changes and start eating fresh foods. This requires frequent trips to the store and buying fewer groceries on each trip as fresh food spoils fast, and I don’t want to waste anything.

For example, my breakfast consists of bacon and eggs with sautéed fresh-cut green pepper, onion, and mushroom, along with Colby Jack cheese on top.

At 55, changing my diet is not enough to lose weight, and the Apple watch has that covered as well. It tells me to stand 12 hours a day, which I do, and it wants me to move enough to burn 570 calories, which I also do.

January went well as I closed all three rings by exercising for 30 minutes every day, standing for 12 hours, and burning 570 calories.

Unfortunately, I ended up with Covid in February and breathing in some mold which made for a rough month. I closed two rings frequently, including the standing goals and burning the calories but missed the exercise goals.

I did not make the February goal of losing a pound a week, with the result coming in at 1/2 pound a week.

I started exercising again in March, losing 2.2 pounds in the first four days of March. I also adjusted the amount of food I am eating to feel like I am eating more than necessary.

I’m putting my exercise goal out here to give me some accountability to follow through and achieve losing that 30 pounds and hopefully motivate others who would benefit from doing the same.
