Mother’s day at my childhood home – a wonderful experience.

My Childhood Home

Yesterday, for Mother’s Day, I went out to dinner with my family and then spent time at my childhood home visiting with my parents. They’ve lived in that home for over fifty years and is much the same as when I grew up in that house.

The house has an enclosed porch that wraps around part of the house and contains a crawl space under that porch with a small door for access to the outside.

My Tonka Toy construction equipment stayed there when not in the gigantic sandbox that my dad built for me. That sandbox was a full 12′ by 12′ making a perfect opportunity to create sand buildings and roads around them.

I decided to crawl under the deck and open the door hoping to see my Tonka Toys still there, but they are gone. Where they went, I have no idea, but it would be so cool to see them again.

As I stood in the front yard, I decided to do some photos of the house and yard, standing where a huge maple tree once grew.

It reminded me of the ant colonies that would build their trails in the and around the cracks in the sidewalks nearby that tree. They would dig their holes big enough to stick m88’s (fireworks) in the hole allowing for a small mess and excitement!

The temperature perfect and a beautiful partly cloudy day led to sitting outside on the front porch, listening to the birds sing, and a light wind, with little else to disturb the moment.

Sleeping in this house allowed for open for a cool breeze and the occasional rustling of trees. Every so often you’d hear a train a mile away as it went by, and sometimes you’d hear on an occasional vehicle on the highway some distance away to the south.

Admittedly, I couldn’t wait to get out of my hometown for more entertainment and action. But, when I spent Sunday back at my childhood home, all I could think about is how great it would be back enjoying a place where the kids could roam while enjoying the pleasantries of peace and quiet not found in many places.
