How to Eliminate Interruptions

Interruptions are something that we all have to deal with on a daily basis. No matter who we are, there are people that want to violate our workspace so that we can solve their problem without them being concerned about prolonging our problems.

Everything has to be done right now, nothing can wait, except for the work that we were doing, when we were interrupted. Sometimes we welcome the interruption to get us out of doing something that we don’t like doing, but we still have to start in on it later, and that interruption just made the time we’re spending doing something we don’t like to do that much longer.

We don’t really think things through when we make emotional decisions and we make a ton of emotional decisions. The best way to avoid the interference is to eliminate the sources of interference such as turning of our phone, shutting down email and closing out Twitter until we have specific time that we’re going to answer email, tweets and return phone calls.

Heck, simply turning our phone off forces people that have specific needs to leave an actual message and saves us from conversations that probably didn’t need to happen after all.

The great news is that when we focus on our project or task at hand, we’re getting it out of the way; it’s leaving our mind and freeing us to enjoy doing what we love to do.

When we stay focused on our task at hand, eliminate the distractions, we’re giving ourselves more time to do what we want, when we want to do it.
