Don’t Put All Your Eggs in an ebay Basket

I’ve been selling on eBay for years and from time to time end up with a dispute. They, on occasion will remove one of my listings, not because there’s been a violation, but because my item I’m selling was different than other items I’ve sold on eBay. Talk about annoying and a big reason not to put your eggs in an eBay basket.

In order to be fair, I have never had a situation where I didn’t relist the item and have eBay put their stamp of approval on the auction, but I just can’t bring myself to rely on selling through this channel and making it my main avenue. The thought sticks in my mind of becoming too reliant on eBay sales, and then one day having the plug pulled out right when I need it most.

While eBay offers an incredible selling opportunity for many, becoming solely reliant on this avenue for your single source of income is extremely dangerous, just like relying on any other single avenue for your single source of income.

I figure that not any one source should be responsible for more than 15% of your sales volume. That way, if you lose a channel, you have several other avenues to fall back on.

Chances are, you’ll have more revenue because you have more strategies to sell your products and services. It keeps you on your toes, and losing a revenue stream is not necessarily a bad thing. You become more vigilant to protecting the revenue streams you have and will be more likely to actively search for additional opportunities.

Remember to spread your business out some and put safety nets in establishing multiple revenue streams.
