The setup is super easy that you can even use your iphone or ipad to do the initial setup.
The web interface offers the same similar menu as previous Netgear routers.
If you have used Netgear routers before, configuration is not a problem for you. I literally completed the configuration and had the network up and running in 10-15 minutes. uPNP and port forwarding works as usual.
This is the AC router supporting both 2.4GHz and 5 GHz bands. I have more than 15 wireless devices connected to the router. I used the old SSID on the 2.4GHz for the legacy devices and move the new devices to 5GHz with new SSID. All legacy devices were able to connect to the router without reconfiguration.
The speed is definitely faster than my old Netgear WNR2000v2. I got ~ 60Mb/s downlink on 5GHz versus 50Mb/s running on 2.4GHz using WNR2000. I think it is the limit of my cable service.
The wireless coverage is pretty good. I don't get much speed reduction(5-10%) in my bedroom which is far away from where the router is. I used to get 50% reduction when I used the WNR2000v2.
It has Gigabit Ethernet interface. I can see the LED color changed on my cable modem. I have not tested the USB yet. So far the router is working like my old Netgear router: reliable and fast.
Just one little thing that I had to download the new FW file to my PC then upload to the router. The one-step webGUI upgrade did not go anywhere. However, it is not a big deal just you have to fire up the PC versus just use your iphone or ipad to do it.
I'm not sure where to start. Initially, the router worked just fine and occasionally would drop a connection where wireless devices would still act like they were connected to the network, yet nothing would load, etc. I would then have to restart the router, or the modem itself (forcing the router to reconnect) and the connection would be back. I then read reviews that I shouldn't put it by my TV, due to signals possibly interfering. I was skeptical, but moved it to a different location in the house and still had the same issue. I then had Comcast out to check everything and they suggested replacing the modem, since it was getting close to End Of Life. After upping my modem, I still had issues and had Comcast out again. They fixed any issues with the signal being delivered to my house (there was no problem, but they worked on "optimizing" because I'd complained so much).
After all said and done, I'm still having issues with the same connection. Devices will say connected when really nothing on the network will work. I've found out that all I need to do is disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable (not even rebooting) and the problem is fixed. That wouldn't be an issue, yet this happens multiple times in an hour and had become a huge nuisance.
Ironically, I am now out of the return window because this whole time I thought it was Comcast/Modem/etc. when really it was the one product I'd done the most research on (this router!). I'm a bit annoyed that I now have to eat the money I spent on this and buy another router. Safe to say I definitely won't be going with a NETGEAR.
I had the line test and it was 1gb out the modem. I looked online and loads of people were complaining. It turns ou Netgear realeasd a firmware update that would throttle you router. The only work aroun was to fin an old version of the firmware. Good luck with that.
Ditched it for an asus.

Wifi signal strength is good, but not so great outside of my room where I placed it - maybe my router placement is not optimal, so you may be able to get a longer distance signal.
Cons.
1) 5 GHz signal range is less (Usable only withing 10 m radius for cell phone which inherently has weak wifi receivers).
2) With gigabyte LAN and ac wifi capability Netgear should have provided usb 3.0 instead of 2.0 for connecting external storage to the router. This is a major drawback.
OpenWRT latest version is supported and it is much better than the stock firmware and the useless Genie app.
4 LAN ports and 1 USB port is more than sufficient.
I got it for 2750/-.
